Who is this course for?
People who want to learn how to identify, locate, forage and use urban edible and medicinal plants, under the guidance of a qualified, experienced and approachable city-based herbology tutor.
People who want to take some control of their own health and well being by incorporating nourishing and local urban plants into their lives.
Those looking for ways to safely deal with simple ailments and who know the value of being able to make these themselves.
Those who want to know how to incorporate more interesting, innovative and sustainable herbs into herbal products.
People who want to see the CMA recognised and accredited course through, improve their practical skills and knowledge and to earn a certificate, which shows that you have learned how to safely and ethically forage in urban spaces.
Who is this course not suitable for?
People who don't want to forage. You will need to actually find plants, ID them and try the projects in this course. You will need to report back with your successes, failures and questions.
People who are not at all interested in urban foraging and urban food sovereignty (of course you won't be forced to eat foraged plants for the course but it does help and the course does encourage it).
People who want a course diploma to obtain insurance to forage and sell foraged plants to the public or industries or make claims about their medicinal uses.
People who are uncomfortable with reading about honey, ghee and some other non-vegan products. The course does contain some animal-sourced ingredients, such as honey and ghee. Alternatives are offered for all of these but those who prefer to exclude all animal sourced products may not feel comfortable about some of the units. Vegan students have been really helpful over the years, in helping us to add and test out more plant-based alternatives for some of these cooking and herb crafting ingredients.
Study time
The study time for this course is generally around 30 hours. That covers reading through the monthly material, getting started with the foraging tasks and sending some feedback to Lynn. Some of the tasks are quite quick, other need you to keep track of things over the year.
You can move through the course at your own pace but the material will be sent to you, in sequence, monthly over 12 months.
Support
Correspondence with Lynn, via email, will provide you with feedback on your assignments. There is a private Facebook group which you may like to join. There are also optional Zoom meetings and periodic workshops available in Amsterdam with Lynn.
