Accessing the units - What can you get into and when?
Everyone on the course has access to all of the course modules from day one. They also get personal support from Lynn and the UH community.
The core module units are progressive so that your skills build up. For instance, you need to show that you understand how to forage ethically, before learning the main plant families. The core modules get opened up to you gradually, as you progress through the material.
The bonus module units are all open to you from the start. They are not progressive. They cover natural remedies, food&drink, and fermenting.
When you have completed the course, your access stays open forever so you can refresh your knowledge and see new material whenever you like.

Whatever works best for you. Links are on the Events & News page.
There are optional walks and workshops throughout the year.
Apprentices do not need to attend but many like to. Some Zooms are like workshops, so let Lynn know if you want to practice a skill in that way.
- Walks are always free for past and present apprentices.
- Workshops are only for apprentices and attendance cost €10 - €15.
These are usually in Amsterdam oost or Schellingwoude.
Booking a place on a walk or workshop is needed to help with planning. Contact Lynn directly to book or use the Meetup group booking facility.
Upcoming dates for apprentices are shown on the Events & News page of this website.
These are purely to help you to learn and to show Lynn that you are engaging and understanding the content. The assignments are relevant, straightforward and quite varied. Without completing them, you cannot access all the units and won't receive your Apprenticeship Certificate. They are not simply about finding answers in the unit text, they do involve some action - to help you to learn and understand.
Here's an example from the Botanical Classification unit (Foraging 4):
1. Look up plant families in a book or online. There are hundreds of them, as discussed in the text above. Which do you recognize?
2. Write down the names of six different plant families. For each of the six, write the common family name in English (and your home language if that is different) also write down the scientific name and an example which you find interesting. An example could be: Onion family (Alliaceae) Chives.
3. Record your findings in the comments box for this unit.
There is no fixed study period because Lynn knows from experience that apprentices need to study when they are ready and have time to commit to this.
Some apprentices stop and restart - Life happens - That's fine!
Some complete in under a year. That's fast but possible if you have the time and commitment. If you are up for the challenge, go for it!
Most people complete the course in 12-18 months.
1 year is a sensible and realistic goal, if you commit time each week.
Please remember that you can stop and start if you need to but do let Lynn know what's going on, so she can help you to reach your Herbology goals.
