Meadowsweet
Contraindications: during pregnancy it may cause miscarriage. Aspirin allergy. In case of asthma, it may cause lung spasms and make asthma worse.
Interactions: aspirin (can exaggerate side effects of aspirin as chemicals are similar); trilisate; disalcid
Toxicity:
Meadowsweet is a safe herb when used short term. It is most likely not safe when consumed in large quantities and long term due to the chemical salicylates (similar to aspirin).
Valerian root
Contraindications: pregnancy. Surgery; anaesthesia used during surgeries affect nervous system, so do valerian plant. Combined effects can be harmful, so consumption of the herb has to be stopped before two weeks.
Interactions: medication changed by liver; alcohol (sleepiness), xanax (sleepiness), cns depresants
Toxicity: valerian plant is well-tolerated and is not considered to be toxic; it is used as a sedative to treat anxiety and insomnia. When taken daily valerian root has a sedative effect on nervous system. however when suddenly stopping taking it, may cause withdrawal symptoms. Therefore it is advised to gradually lower the dose. Negative side effects can also be mental dullness, drowsiness, dizziness, and headache.
