In the Netherlands before Christian time people got out to harvest herbs at midsummer because the medicinal and magical powers would be the greatest at exactly midsummer.
In Christian times celebrating midsummer was forbidden in some regions. Nowadays it is coming back a little bit. I see more and more people at least being aware of it being a moment and having a natural meaning that impacts the natural world and ourselves. Also in free schools it is a moment to celebrate and children jump over fires.
I would like to stay up the whole day, but maybe next year as my lack of sleep will be less and I get more chances to recover (hopefully)
This year, my harvesting day is a little late, but I will go out with my ‘shopping list’ tomorrow.
