I found that it was created by draining marshland and bringing in barges of soil (possibly from Copenhagen?). There doesn’t seem to have been direct industrial use of the land, before it became a park, but the soil that was used to build it up seems to be the concern.
Interestingly perhaps, Science Park – which was sorted out far later – is seen as the best soil quality, and that is a lovely place to forage, in the quieter areas or times of the day.
