(Somehow never got round to posting this earlier in the year…)
The plot I have access to for growing any herbs and plants is my balcony. It is South-facing, and shielded from wind as it is adjacent to the neighbours’ balconies. The balcony is long and narrow, so we can only really have one row of plant-pots along the edges. Last year I built a vertical planter out of scrap wood to address the space issue, which now sits at one end.
I have been growing kitchen and tea herbs myself this year (& have been harvesting & drying them regularly), with my goal being that I no longer need to buy any common kitchen/tea herbs from the supermarket!
For example, at the moment I’ve got: Lavender, Chamomile, Lemon verbena, Lemon balm, Mint, Basil, Parsley, Chives, Rosemary, & Thyme.
Most have done well & are still going strong, but I have had lots of pests this year (particularly aphids and spider mites).
If possible/in future, it would be great to have something growing at different points of the year and/or growing things that are not just good for me, but good for the bees and insects as well!
