Hi Lynn,

I’d like to share something about my plot. We moved into a new house, located in Amsterdam West. And the good part is, it has a garden! It’s my first garden. Since we moved here a couple of months ago, I’ve been working in it vigorously. It has bamboo everywhere, the bamboo kind that leaves a thick root bed underneath the surface. I’m happy to say I’m hoping to be done clearing it in a week or so. There are also tiles I’ll be removing, and planting grass.

I’ve asked the owner of the house what the history is of the soil, and he said that there was a coal burner and a paint maker located in these plots. I’m not so sure if the soil is non-toxic enough to plant my own vegetables (or herbs). But I’m going to give it a go by removing a lot of the top soil, and buying new organic soil to replace the top layer. Lets hope time, the rainworms and rain have maked good of the soil in the last few decennia.

It’s a shady garden, and the sun is on it between 12:00 ish and 15:30. The size of the plot I’m planning to use is about 2m by 1.5m.
