The PAs are the main worry in Comfrey. With Russian Comfrey, apparently, there are very low to zero levels of the risky PAs in the foliage, they are said to be only in the roots, but as we don’t have PA testing facilities in our kitchens, best to keep all forms of comfrey for the outside of the body – and making fabulous fertilizer!
Comfrey has a very very long tradition of use and very few reported incidences of hepatic problems (in comparison to how many people around the world have used it for thousands of years) but it is a definite risk and better to be safe than sorry.
