Sounds like a good balance, and indeed it is difficult and not the best idea to get all of our vegetable matter from the city. The figs: How painful to see them hanging there uneaten! I hope that your neighbour harvests and enjoys them when the time to pick comes. Maybe you could plant one somewhere? There must be a way to take cuttings from a tree somewhere, to say buying one and waiting so long. Will investigate!
